An explosion occurred at a storage building belonging to the Nigerian Army at Ilese Barracks in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State. The incident took place in the early hours of Thursday, August 14, 2025, and resulted in a subsequent fire.

Army spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele confirmed the event, describing it as "minor." He stated that there were no casualties, although the building sustained significant damage. "In the early hours of today, 14 August 2025, a localized explosion took place within one of the storage buildings of the 42 Engineers Brigade Counter Improvised Explosive Device Squadron, leading to a limited fire outbreak.

"The prompt response from troops of the 12 Field Engineer Regiment, in collaboration with the Ijebu-Ode Fire Service, helped to contain the fire quickly. It is important to note that there were no injuries reported, and the structural damage was limited to the affected building and some stored materials. A detailed assessment is currently underway to evaluate the material loss," the statement read.

The Army advised residents of Ilese and nearby communities to remain calm and continue with their normal activities. "The Nigerian Army, along with relevant agencies, has initiated a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident and to prevent future occurrences."
