Update on Rochester's Mysterious Big Cat Sighting

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has launched an investigation into the recent big cat sighting in Rochester, with officials visiting the city today to gather evidence. Following a thorough analysis of the doorbell video and on-site measurements, the agency suggests that the animal in question may indeed be a cougar, provided the video has not been tampered with.

If confirmed, it is likely that the cougar did not naturally wander into the city, but rather was previously held in captivity, possibly as an illegal pet. The DEC urge citizens to exercise extreme caution if they encounter the animal, treating it with the same respect and distance as they would any other large, potentially dangerous wild animal or unfamiliar dog.

Residents are advised to keep a safe distance, slowly back away, and refrain from approaching the animal. If a sighting occurs, take photos from a very safe distance and immediately report the incident to local law enforcement. The DEC will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.

In related news, Rochester Police Department issued a shelter-in-place order last night in the vicinity of Rauber Street following a reported sighting, although the animal remains at large. This clear Ring video footage from Grand Avenue is currently the best visual evidence of the mysterious big cat. We will keep the public informed of any developments in this ongoing investigation.
