A devastating incident has shaken the community of Proton Station, near Dundalk, as a four-year-old child's life was tragically cut short in a drowning accident on a private property. On Sunday, July 13, 2025, at approximately 7:00 p.m., emergency services were alerted to the disappearance of the young child, who was swimming with family members in a pond on a farm near Southgate Road 26.

A massive search operation was launched, involving multiple agencies and units. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Emergency Response Team, OPP Canine Unit, and fire and emergency services from Owen Sound, Hanover, and Southgate joined forces to scour the property and pond in search of the missing child.

Sadly, the grim reality became apparent on Monday, July 14, 2025, when the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit located and recovered the body of the four-year-old. The news has sent shockwaves throughout the community, leaving family, friends, and neighbors reeling in grief.

As the investigation into the incident continues, the OPP and other involved agencies will work tirelessly to piece together the events leading up to the tragic accident. Meanwhile, the community comes together to mourn the loss of a young life, taken far too soon.
