As of Monday, [July 19, 2025], a section of Highway 97 in Kelowna, British Columbia, has been closed due to a motor vehicle collision involving an RCMP cruiser. The incident occurred at approximately 11:53 a.m. at the intersection of Harvey Avenue and Bertram Street.

According to the RCMP, one of their officers was injured in the collision and was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The police cruiser was involved in a crash with a transport truck, resulting in significant damage to the vehicle.

The southbound lanes of Highway 97 have been closed from Richter Street to Ellis Street, and motorists are advised to avoid the area and take an alternate route. The closure is expected to be in place for an undetermined amount of time as the RCMP conducts their investigation into the incident.

Witnesses reported that the police cruiser was responding to a call with its lights flashing when another vehicle cut off the cruiser, causing it to crash into the transport truck. Emergency personnel were quickly on the scene, and the injured officer was treated and taken to the hospital.

The Kelowna RCMP is urging drivers to exercise caution and plan their routes accordingly. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available. In the meantime, drivers can expect delays and are encouraged to check for traffic updates before embarking on their journey.
