The California Highway Patrol's Northern Division Investigative Services Unit (ISU), K-9 Unit, and Warrant Service Team (WST) executed a coordinated operation this morning, resulting in the seizure of a stolen Jeep Grand Cherokee, a massive 1500-pound cannabis haul, and the arrest of six individuals on various charges. The operation, which unfolded in an unincorporated area of Tehama County, was part of a larger investigation into stolen vehicles that had been ongoing for several months.

At approximately 1000 hours, the law enforcement units served a search warrant at the suspect's residence. Upon entry, officers were met with an extensive marijuana growing operation, which included a plethora of illegal contraband. The illicit items found on the property included not only the stolen Jeep Grand Cherokee but also large quantities of cannabis, two firearms, a high-capacity magazine, and various paraphernalia indicative of drug trafficking, such as cocaine, scales, and packaging materials.

The Tehama Interagency Drug Enforcement Task Force (TIDET) and Tehama County Code Enforcement were quickly summoned to the scene to assist in processing and removing the evidence. The cannabis, which was estimated to have a street value in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, was secured and immediately transported for destruction.

In a swift response to the alarming discovery, six of the eight individuals present at the residence were taken into custody. They now face a multitude of charges, including illegal marijuana cultivation, possession of cocaine with intent to sell, possession of cocaine while armed with a firearm, and child endangerment, as the house was also inhabited by two minors. The children were safely removed from the scene and placed into the custody of a relative.

The identities of the suspects are being withheld at this time as the investigation continues to unfold. However, it is clear that the collaborative efforts of the CHP's ISU, K-9 Unit, and WST, alongside local law enforcement and code enforcement, have dealt a significant blow to criminal activity in the area.

"This operation exemplifies the dedication and professionalism of our officers in keeping our communities safe," said Captain James Smith, CHP Northern Division Commander. "Their tireless efforts to dismantle illicit operations like these are invaluable in maintaining the peace and security of Tehama County."

The CHP's Northern Division ISU is a specialized unit focused on investigating crimes that impact public safety and the integrity of California's roadways. The K-9 Unit plays a crucial role in detecting and apprehending suspects, as well as locating drugs and explosives. The Warrant Service Team is responsible for the service of high-risk warrants and search warrants throughout the division's jurisdiction.

The investigation into the stolen vehicles led officers to the residential property, where they uncovered the marijuana cultivation site. The CHP emphasized that this success is a testament to the importance of sharing information and resources between law enforcement agencies to combat crime effectively.

"Today's operation is a prime example of what can be achieved when we work together," said Tehama County Sheriff John Peters. "We are grateful for the assistance of CHP in this case, and we will continue to collaborate to ensure that those who wish to engage in illegal activities are held accountable."

The operation highlights the persistent problem of illicit marijuana grows in rural California communities and the potential dangers they pose, including environmental damage, fire hazards, and the exploitation of vulnerable individuals. The CHP is urging residents with information regarding similar activities to come forward.

The California Highway Patrol remains committed to protecting and serving the people of Tehama County and the greater Northern California area.
