The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games are set to open on Wednesday, August 28, marking a historic event as Paris hosts its first-ever Paralympic Games. The opening ceremony, planned to be a grand spectacle, will take place in the heart of the city, centered around the iconic Champs-Élysées and Place de la Concorde.

Artistic director Thomas Jolly, who also directed the Olympic opening ceremony, promises a unique and inspirational show that will showcase the values embodied by Paralympic athletes. The ceremony will feature athletes from 184 delegations, parading down one of the world's most famous avenues before culminating in a vibrant celebration at Place de la Concorde.

Over 65,000 spectators are expected to attend the ceremony, with millions more watching globally. This event symbolizes not just a celebration of sport, but also a powerful message of inclusion and unity, setting the tone for 11 days of competition across 22 sports.

The Paris Paralympics will see over 4,000 athletes compete, with the first medals being awarded in sports such as taekwondo, table tennis, and track cycling on the first day of competition.
