Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote announced on Friday that Africa could stop importing fertiliser within 40 months, propelled by a substantial expansion of his $2.5 billion urea plant located in Lagos.

During the Afreximbank annual meeting, an organization that promotes African trade, Dangote expressed his ambition to transform his facility into the leading urea producer globally, even exceeding Qatar. His plant, which currently has an annual production of 3 million tons, would require a doubling of its capacity.
