Before plowing can commence, the field preparation is crucial. This is often done manually or with basic tools to ensure the land is ready for planting. Horse plowing offers several advantages over early manual methods, such as greater speed and efficiency. It enables deeper and more consistent tillage. However, it is more labor-intensive than modern tractor methods and may not be ideal for very large fields or heavy soils.

Nonetheless, horse plowing is appreciated for its environmental benefits, as it lessens soil compaction and fuel consumption compared to mechanized farming. Additionally, it plays a vital role in preserving agricultural heritage and tradition in certain communities.
