The Calgary Police Service (CPS) has laid charges against a 60-year-old CTrain operator named Gordon Steve FERDINANDS following a collision that occurred at the Banff Trail Station in April 2025. The incident involved an 11-year-old pedestrian who was struck by the CTrain as it entered the station. The boy suffered a broken leg and was taken to Alberta Children's Hospital in stable condition.

According to the CPS, the pedestrian barriers were not down at the time of the collision, which typically prevent such incidents. Additionally, the bells that are meant to alert passengers of an approaching train were not functioning properly. Despite these conditions, the investigation conducted by the CPS Traffic Unit has led to the operator being charged with dangerous operation causing bodily harm.

FERDINANDS is scheduled to appear in court on September 3, 2025, in relation to the incident. The charge reflects the serious nature of the collision and the potential risks involved when safety measures are not fully implemented or functioning correctly. The investigation and subsequent charges serve as a reminder of the importance of proper safety protocols and vigilance by both train operators and pedestrians near train stations.
