Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has announced plans to organize a State Sports Festival with the goal of identifying and nurturing young talent as well as boosting sports tourism in the state. This initiative falls under his administration's ARISE Agenda. The announcement was made during a special dinner at Government House, Uyo, where he hosted the Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, and Olympic athlete Idara Otu, along with their families.

The Governor acknowledged and praised the contributions of Troost-Ekong and Otu to the state's reputation on the international sports stage. He emphasized the importance of supporting and honoring individuals from Akwa Ibom who are achieving global recognition in various fields.

To facilitate the growth of sports in the state, the administration is planning to establish a new sports academy, construct a 9-hole golf course, and build an Olympic-sized swimming pool. These infrastructural developments are intended to provide the necessary environment for talent to thrive and excel in various sporting disciplines.

Governor Eno called for partnerships with successful sports personalities, including the likes of William Troost-Ekong, who expressed his support for the vision and willingness to contribute to the development of future stars through his foundation. The collaboration aims to enhance grassroots talent discovery and development, ensuring that Akwa Ibom State continues to produce high-caliber athletes.
