Prime Minister Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka hosted a cordial round of golf in Suva today (21:06:2025) with leaders and senior officials from the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG), in anticipation of Fiji's formal takeover of the MSG chairmanship.

Characterizing the game as a friendly gathering, Hon. Rabuka remarked that the event provided an informal environment for discussions prior to the official meetings commencing on Monday, June 23, 2025.

"This game serves as a gathering among friends. We might even discuss the agenda that has been prepared by the senior officials, and it consistently fosters a very amicable atmosphere, friendly meetings, and a friendly retreat. We aspire to extend this spirit first to the Pacific, to the Ocean of Peace, adopting that concept at the PIF conference in Honiara, and subsequently bringing it to the global stage with the upcoming UNGA in September," stated Hon. Rabuka.

"It is a friendly event, yet one of significant importance."

Accompanying the Prime Minister at the Fiji Golf Club in Vatuwaqa today were the Prime Minister of Vanuatu, Hon. Jotham Napat, Fiji's Minister for Immigration Hon. Viliame Naupoto, as well as Fiji's High Commissioners to New Zealand, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola, and our High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea and the MSG, Mr. Jackson Evans. Also present on the course was the Indonesian Ambassador to Fiji, H.E. Dupito Simamora.

Fiji is poised to assume the chairmanship of the MSG in a traditional handover ceremony on Monday, with PM Rabuka receiving the leadership mantle at the Bose Levu Vakaturaga Grounds.

Comprising Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, and FLNKS, the Melanesian Spearhead Group plays a vital role in promoting political, economic, and cultural cooperation within the region.
