A tragic bus accident in central Iran has claimed the lives of at least 28 Pakistani pilgrims and left 23 others injured. The accident occurred late on Tuesday in the Yazd province when the bus's brakes reportedly failed, causing it to overturn near the Dehshir-Taft checkpoint. The bus was carrying Shiite pilgrims from Pakistan's Sindh province who were en route to Iraq to participate in the Arbaeen pilgrimage, a significant event in the Shiite Muslim calendar that commemorates the martyrdom of Imam Hussein.

Among the deceased, 11 were women and 17 were men. Seven of the injured are in critical condition, while others have been treated and discharged from the hospital. Pakistan's government, including the Sindh provincial authorities, has expressed deep sorrow over the incident and is working with Iranian officials to repatriate the bodies and provide support to the injured.

Road accidents in Iran are unfortunately common, with poor traffic safety contributing to a high annual death toll.
