On National Day Against Gun Violence, it's encouraging to hear about the positive impact that the Calgary Police Service has made in reducing gun-related incidents within the city. The 54% decrease in shootings from the 5-year average is a testament to the effectiveness of the strategies implemented, particularly the creation of the Strategic Data Integration & Intelligence Analytical Unit (SDIIAU) in 2024.

The SDIIAU's integration of data and advanced geospatial analysis is a crucial step in the ongoing battle against gun and gang violence. By leveraging technology and analytical capabilities, law enforcement can better predict and respond to potential threats, target known offenders, and develop more informed strategies for preventing future incidents. The success of this approach underscores the importance of investing in intelligence-led policing and collaborating with other agencies and community organizations to address the root causes of gun violence.

Today, we stand with the victims, survivors, and all those affected by gun violence, and we commend the efforts of the Calgary Police Service in making the city a safer place. We also recognize the ongoing need for vigilance and the importance of addressing the societal factors that contribute to gun violence. Through a combination of effective policing, community engagement, and prevention programs, we can continue to work towards a Canada free from gun violence.
