Prior to the formal swearing-in of the new cabinet, the Governor-General performed several official duties, which included: receiving a letter from Prime Minister Albanese that contained his resignation and suggestions for the new cabinet's formation, re-swearing in the Prime Minister, convening a meeting of the Executive Council, and signing the appointment documents for the 41 new ministers. Subsequently, the Governor-General formally administered the oath to all 41 ministers in the presence of their families and colleagues.
