The RCMP-RNC Joint Forces Operation West (JFO West) recently conducted a traffic stop in Corner Brook that led to the seizure of approximately six ounces of cocaine and the arrest of a 49-year-old man. The operation was part of an ongoing investigation aimed at targeting drug trafficking and organized crime on the west coast of Newfoundland.

The accused individual was found in possession of the narcotic during the traffic stop and was promptly taken into custody. He has since been released with a future court date set for a charge of possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine. The investigation remains open and additional charges may be laid as more evidence comes to light.

JFO West is a collaborative effort between the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) that focuses on combating drug trafficking and organized crime in the region. They are urging residents of the west coast to report any suspicious activity related to drug trafficking by calling their designated drug line at (709) 637-4221, with the assurance that callers can remain anonymous.

The seizure comes amidst growing concerns regarding the high potency of cocaine found on the streets of the province. These substances pose a significant risk to users, as they are linked to an increase in overdose deaths. It is important to note that Naloxone, a medication used to reverse the effects of opioid overdoses, is not effective against cocaine overdoses. Therefore, anyone suspecting a cocaine overdose should seek emergency medical help immediately.
