In the heart of Osun State, a remarkable event took place in Ido-Osun.
As part of the Nigerian Air Force's 61st Anniversary celebrations, the Air Force Research and Development Institute (AFRDI) opened its doors to the public for the first time in years, inviting residents from Osogbo and surrounding communities to explore a world that is typically out of reach.
Attendees were taken on a journey through innovation, witnessing Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), Artificial Intelligence labs, and advanced CNC machines—all showcasing local ingenuity that drives national defense. "This is incredible! I never knew such cutting-edge technology was being developed right here in Osun," exclaimed a young student while closely inspecting a drone. The exhibitions extended beyond technology. Guests had the opportunity to view NAF equipment, including AK-47 rifles, pistols, and military uniforms, with documentaries and video presentations highlighting the Air Force's proud legacy.
In his address to the crowd, AFRDI's Director General, Air Vice Marshal PO Oahimire, highlighted the vital role of collaboration between the military and the community. "The Nigerian Air Force is not just ours; it's a national treasure that we all share and support," he stated. A local community leader encapsulated the day's essence: "This event has united us. It revealed the human side of the Air Force—its innovators, protectors, and patriots. We are thankful for this experience." Visitors left not only with cherished memories, but also with a renewed sense of pride in what is being created behind the scenes, and in the dedicated individuals making it happen. #NAF61 #AFRDI
