The ceasefire is a response to weeks of escalating attacks between the two neighboring countries. US President Donald Trump was the first to disclose the ceasefire agreement, which was later validated by the foreign ministries of India and Pakistan. Prior to the announcement, both countries engaged in mutual attacks throughout the night. On Saturday, May 10, DW provides live updates on the situation between India and Pakistan: Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar has stated that an "understanding" has been reached with Pakistan, emphasizing India's unwavering stance against terrorism. "Today, India and Pakistan have come to an understanding regarding the cessation of firing and military actions," he shared on social media platform X.

"India has consistently maintained a strong and resolute position against terrorism in all its forms and will continue to do so," he added. India has accused Pakistan of supporting terrorist activities following a deadly attack on civilians in the Kashmir region on April 22, which resulted in 26 fatalities. Pakistan has denied any involvement and has requested an independent investigation.
