The Office for Alternative Dispute Resolution (OADR) has proudly signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), marking a significant advancement in fostering a strategic international partnership aimed at promoting arbitration and alternative dispute resolution (ADR).
This agreement transcends a mere contract; it serves as a Memorandum of Trust, representing a decisive step toward a future where global expertise aligns with local realities. As Executive Director Atty. Margaret Raizza D. Andaman stated, "This MOU sends a clear message to the world that the Philippines is open for business and ready to earn trust." Grounded in Republic Act No. 9285, known as the ADR Act of 2004, the MOU underscores a shared dedication to championing international arbitration as an efficient, impartial, and cost-effective means of dispute resolution. It supports national efforts to alleviate court congestion and ensure timely justice. With a proven global presence and participants from over 100 jurisdictions, SIAC offers the international expertise necessary to elevate Philippine ADR standards to a global scale.
This partnership strengthens the Philippines' position as a vital regional player in arbitration and ADR. At the core of this collaboration are capacity-building initiatives that include joint conferences, seminars, workshops, and training programs aimed at developing local talent and increasing awareness of international arbitration. OADR is also committed to supporting SIAC events in the Philippines and promoting SIAC among key stakeholders, including government agencies, local businesses, and industry associations. The signing event culminated in a Networking Event for Young Arbitration Professionals, setting the stage for the next generation of leaders in the ADR field. Together, OADR and SIAC are paving the way for a future where fair, accessible, and top-tier dispute resolution services are available to all.
As Atty. Andaman expressed, "While this may be our first MOU, we hope it's one that leaves a lasting impression—the kind that brings a smile when back in Singapore, thinking, 'that was a great beginning.'" Here's to a partnership founded on trust, mutual respect, and a common vision for advancing ADR in the Philippines and beyond! #OADRxSIAC #ChooseADR #DOJPH #BagongPilipinas
