Revenue officers in Ireland have made a substantial seizure of approximately 500 kilograms of herbal cannabis, estimated to be worth €10 million, in an intelligence-led operation in Clare. This significant haul was the result of a collaborative effort between Revenue's Customs Service, the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB), Clare Divisional Drugs Unit, and Gardaí from Limerick Division. The drugs were found as part of an ongoing investigation into the activities of organized crime groups involved in the importation, sale, and supply of illegal substances.

Following the seizure, two men, both in their 60s, were apprehended by the Gardaí and are currently being detained at local Garda stations under the provisions of the Criminal Justice Drug Trafficking Act 1996. The identities of the suspects have not been disclosed at this time.

The successful operation underscores the commitment of Irish law enforcement agencies to tackle the issue of drug smuggling and distribution within the country. Revenue is encouraging anyone with information regarding such activities to come forward and report their suspicions confidentially to the dedicated hotline 1800 295 295.

The seizure is a significant blow to the illicit drugs trade and reinforces the ongoing efforts to dismantle the networks responsible for the importation and distribution of drugs in Ireland. The operation highlights the effectiveness of intelligence-sharing and joint operations between different branches of the Irish security forces.
