Carl Beck;
Today, I presented a legislative proposal aimed at safeguarding employment, securing investments, and ensuring economic stability. Saskatchewan will always remain an integral part of Canada.

For further details regarding my bill, please refer to our news release below: SASKATCHEWAN NDP UNVEILS LEGISLATION TO MAINTAIN SASKATCHEWAN'S PLACE IN CANADA. REGINA – Today, Carla Beck, the Leader of the Saskatchewan NDP, introduced essential legislation intended to complicate any attempts by the Sask. Party government to separate Saskatchewan from Canada. The Keep Saskatchewan in Canada Act aims to provide enduring stability for workers, businesses, and investors amidst tariffs and the renewed uncertainty stemming from Donald Trump's threats to Canadian sovereignty. Beck stated, "Saskatchewan's future lies within Canada — yet we also deserve recognition from Ottawa.

The current situation is inadequate, but abandoning our country is not the solution. Having grown up on a farm, I learned that when faced with challenges, one must not give up but rather strive to find solutions. This is a pivotal moment, and we have the chance to advance significant projects — including rail lines, pipelines, and powerlines — that will secure our economic future." If enacted, Beck's legislation would modify the Referendum and Plebiscite Act to restrict the Premier and Cabinet from independently initiating a referendum on separation. Additionally, it would increase the requirement for citizen petitions regarding separation referendums from 15 percent to 30 percent of eligible voters. Beck remarked, "A referendum on separation from Canada would deter jobs and investments from coming to Saskatchewan, even if it ultimately fails — as evidenced by the situation in Quebec.

I received this message clearly during my discussions with energy leaders in Calgary this week — discussions of separation will jeopardize jobs, investments, and essential infrastructure projects. While citizen-led referendums are a democratic process, a vote on separation should meet a stringent standard due to the significant economic repercussions it could entail.
