President Donald Trump has announced an official proclamation designating May 8th—tomorrow—as Victory Day in honor of World War II. Today, our nation proudly celebrates the 80th anniversary of the Allied Powers' victory over national socialism and fascism, marking the end of World War II in Europe—one of the most significant triumphs for the forces of freedom in history.

On this Victory Day, we honor the unparalleled strength, might, and power of the American Armed Forces, reaffirming our commitment to safeguarding our cherished right to liberty against all threats, both foreign and domestic. Following the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, the United States entered the conflict, which would come to symbolize the ultimate struggle between good and evil. After nearly four years filled with some of the darkest and deadliest events in human history, over 250,000 Americans sacrificed their lives in the fight against the Nazi regime. Today and every day, we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country, their freedom, and the preservation of Western civilization.

Without the bravery and sacrifice of our soldiers, this war could not have been won, and our world would be drastically altered. May 8, 1945, marks the acceptance of Germany's unconditional surrender by the Allies—signaling the beginning of the end for years of grueling and brutal warfare. The countless lives lost in this conflict serve as a reminder of the importance of pursuing peace through strength.

I remain committed to ending the cycle of endless foreign wars and preventing further loss of life. As I expressed in my Inaugural Address, our success will be measured not just by our victories in battle but by the wars we manage to conclude—my proudest legacy will be that of a peacemaker. As we observe Victory Day for World War II, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to every patriot from the Greatest Generation who left their homes and families to fight for our freedom in distant lands.

We remember and honor all those who lost their lives. Above all, we renew our pledge to ensure that America—and the whole world—remains safe, secure, prosperous, and free. NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, acting under the authority granted to me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim May 8, 2025, as a day of celebration for Victory Day in World War II. IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have set my hand this seventh day of May, in the year of our Lord two thousand twenty-five, and of the Independence of the United States of America, the two hundred forty-ninth.
