Ukraine Set to Receive Two Additional Patriot Systems, One of Which Has Been Refurbished in Israel

According to a report by The New York Times on May 4, Ukraine is preparing to receive two more Patriot air defense systems this summer.

One of these systems will be provided by Israel after being fully refurbished, while the other system is expected to come from either Germany or Greece. The Israeli system is an older model that was previously stationed in the region.

Its transfer comes after extensive discussions among allied nations and an assessment of Ukraine's urgent air defense requirements, particularly in response to the increase in Russian missile attacks, including the deadly strike on Kyiv on April 24—the most lethal attack since last summer. Currently, Ukraine operates eight Patriot systems, with two undergoing repairs and six fully operational. The inclusion of the Israeli system and a potential European system would bring the total count to ten.
