The two-day event focused on Lines of Effort (LOE) encompassing defense and security strategies, particularly in developing a Self-Reliant Defense Posture (SRDP) and ensuring effective crisis management responses, while also addressing issues related to maritime, land, air, space, and border security. During the opening session, NSC Deputy Director-General and Chief of Staff Benjamin R. Madrigal, Jr. highlighted the necessity for strategic synchronization, addressing potential risks and challenges that must be tackled within the Lines of Effort to safeguard our sovereignty and prosperity. He emphasized the critical role of public-private partnerships in protecting national interests and balancing defense with economic needs for long-term resilience. Following this, DDG Nestor C. Herico reaffirmed the administration's dedication to national defense and provided an overview of the National Security Policy (NSP) and NSS, illustrating the synergy between security goals and economic objectives while promoting collaborations among agencies and stakeholders. A situational briefing then followed, detailing the current state of defense and military capabilities, as well as maritime, air, land, space, and border security.
This briefing underscored the increasingly complex security landscape shaped by a mix of traditional threats and evolving geopolitical tensions, emphasizing that the Philippines is at a pivotal moment in strengthening its defense capabilities. The Department of National Defense expressed its commitment to enhancing defense readiness to better safeguard national interests. Additionally, NSC Assistant Director-General Cornelio H. Valencia, Jr. presented the 360-Degree Archipelagic Governance Approach, which highlighted the need for a holistic understanding of maritime security and the effective utilization of resources to ensure a safe and prosperous maritime environment. Participants engaged in thematic workshops aimed at addressing specific sector challenges and developing aligned contributions for NSS 2024. Each group focused on critical areas to bolster national security, emphasizing the importance of proactive strategies and the interconnectedness of defense and economic approaches as we work towards a secure and prosperous future. #NSCPhilippines #NationalSecurityStrategy2024
