Title: President Tinubu Authorizes N110 Billion Support Fund for 18 Universities

In a decisive effort to combat the increasing outflow of Nigerian medical professionals, often referred to as the "japa" trend, President Bola Tinubu has approved a N110 billion grant for 18 universities nationwide. This initiative aims to revitalize medical education and enhance the capacity of these institutions to train a greater number of healthcare professionals. Each institution will receive around N4 billion, with N750 million specifically designated for the development of student hostels. Additionally, the funding will facilitate the creation of eight advanced simulation laboratories across Nigeria's geopolitical regions, aiming to increase enrollment in medical and allied health science programs. The universities benefitting from this initiative include:

3. University of Lagos 
4. Ahmadu Bello University 
5. University of Benin 
6. Imo State University 
7. University of Ibadan 
8. University of Medical Sciences, Ondo 9. Benue State University 
10. Umaru Musa Yaradua University 
11. University of Nigeria, Nsukka 
12. University of Calabar 
13. Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University 
14. University of Jos 
15. University of Ilorin 16. Gombe State University 17. Usmanu Danfodio University 
18. University of Maiduguri This far-reaching intervention aims to improve the infrastructure at medical schools by renovating lecture theatres, upgrading laboratories, and enhancing learning environments. Ultimately, the program is expected to significantly increase the number of well-trained doctors, nurses, dentists, and pharmacists, addressing the country's growing healthcare demands.
