This year marks 75 years of diplomatic relations between our two countries, and Their Excellencies' visit was a wonderful opportunity to meet and personally thank those who contribute to our strong and enduring partnership.

On arrival at the airport, Their Excellencies were warmly welcomed by Australia's Ambassador to Egypt, Axel Wabenhorst, and Dr. Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development. As the first woman to hold this important role, Dr. Awad shared a thoughtful discussion with the Governor-General about the importance of women in leadership.

During their stay, the Governor-General and Mr. Beckett SC engaged in a series of high-level meetings with senior Egyptian officials, including President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry. These discussions focused on strengthening bilateral ties, promoting trade and investment, and addressing regional security concerns. The Governor-General also took the opportunity to express Australia's appreciation for Egypt's continued support in the fight against terrorism and its role in maintaining regional stability.

Their Excellencies also participated in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, paying respects to the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country. This poignant moment was a fitting tribute to the strong bond between Australia and Egypt, forged through shared values and a commitment to peace and prosperity.

In addition to their official engagements, the Governor-General and Mr. Beckett SC were treated to a cultural immersion, exploring the rich history and heritage of Egypt. They visited the iconic Pyramids of Giza, marveling at the ancient architectural wonders, and toured the Egyptian Museum, home to the world's largest collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts.

The visit culminated in a reception hosted by the Australian Embassy, where Their Excellencies met with members of the Australian expatriate community, Egyptian business leaders, and representatives from various fields, including education, arts, and sports. This joyful gathering celebrated the strong people-to-people links between our nations, highlighting the many success stories of collaboration and cooperation.
