EFCC Arrests 13 Suspected Internet Fraudsters in Abuja

Operatives of the Abuja Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested 13 suspected internet fraudsters. They were arrested on Thursday, April 24, 2025, in their hideout in Kubwa, a suburb of Abuja, following credible intelligence on their suspected involvement in internet-related activities.

The arrest is part of the Commission's concerted efforts to rid the nation of the scourge of cybercrime, which has become a major concern for individuals and businesses alike. The EFCC has been at the forefront of the fight against internet fraud, and this latest operation is a testament to its unwavering commitment to bringing perpetrators to justice.

Items recovered from the suspects include three laptops, 17 phones, and two cars. Preliminary investigations have revealed that the suspects were involved in various forms of internet fraud, including phishing, romance scams, and identity theft. They allegedly used the proceeds of their illegal activities to fund their lavish lifestyles, acquiring expensive cars, properties, and other luxury items.

The suspects, who are currently being detained at the EFCC's Abuja office, will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded. The Commission is working tirelessly to ensure that all necessary evidence is gathered to secure convictions in court.

The EFCC is urging members of the public to be cautious when transacting business online and to report any suspicious activities to the Commission. It is also advising parents and guardians to monitor the activities of their children and wards, as many of them are being recruited by internet fraudsters as conduits for their illegal activities.

In the meantime, the EFCC is calling on the general public to support its efforts in the fight against cybercrime by providing useful information that can lead to the arrest and prosecution of internet fraudsters. With the collaboration of all stakeholders, the Commission is confident that it can significantly reduce the incidence of internet fraud in Nigeria and restore the country's image in the comity of nations.
