The Cabinet has approved a proposal from the Republic of the Philippines to set up an Embassy in Suva.

Diplomatic relations between Fiji and the Philippines were formally established on December 18, 1973.

At present, the Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in Wellington is responsible for diplomatic matters in Fiji, while the Embassy of Fiji in Jakarta handles relations with the Philippines. Additionally, bilateral cooperation has been strengthened through the support of Honorary Consulate Offices in both nations.

The opening of an Embassy in Suva is expected to further enhance the growing partnership between Fiji and the Philippines, particularly in vital areas such as labor mobility, agriculture, security (specifically drug trafficking), climate change, and maritime and ocean affairs.
