According to a report by Bloomberg, Chinese airlines have been directed to refrain from accepting deliveries of aircraft from the American manufacturer Boeing. This development occurs amid the intensifying trade conflict between Beijing and Washington.
Boeing has identified China as its largest market for aircraft outside the United States.
The report indicates that China has instructed its airlines to stop receiving jets from Boeing and to halt the acquisition of aviation equipment and parts from American firms altogether. This directive was reported by Bloomberg on Tuesday.
These instructions from Beijing arise as the two largest economies in the world engage in a series of retaliatory trade tariffs against one another, escalating the ongoing trade war.
Bloomberg also noted that the Chinese government is contemplating measures to assist airlines that lease Boeing aircraft, which are now facing increased costs.
This situation may lead Chinese airlines to explore options from Airbus, based in Europe, as well as from the domestic manufacturer Comac.
Beijing condemns 'bullying' from Washington
In response to the tariffs of up to 145% imposed by the Trump administration on Chinese goods, China has retaliated with duties of 125% on imports from the United States, labeling Washington's actions as unlawful "bullying."
The tariffs imposed by China on US imports are likely to significantly increase the costs associated with importing aircraft and components.
Since taking office in January, President Donald Trump has implemented a series of tariffs affecting both adversaries and allies.
Last week, he temporarily suspended a new round of what he termed "reciprocal tariffs" on most nations shortly after their announcement, but excluded China from this exemption.
Global markets have experienced volatility as investors attempt to navigate what many perceive as erratic US trade policies lacking a solid economic foundation.
