The incident occurred shortly before 6 a.m. when the operator of a Dodge Caravan collided with the driver of a Nissan Kix.

Emergency services, including the Millet Fire Department and Wetaskiwin RCMP, responded to the accident on Highway 2A, located just south of 53 Avenue.

To facilitate an investigation, an RCMP collision analyst was summoned to the scene, leading to the closure of the highway to all traffic until just before noon. Passenger vehicles were redirected west to 51 Street from either 53 Avenue or 52 Avenue, while heavy trucks were rerouted to Highway 814 or QEII, as there is no designated heavy truck route through the town.

Cpl. Troy Savinkoff of Alberta RCMP Media Relations reported that the Kix driver suffered minor injuries, whereas the Caravan driver remained unharmed.

"It's fortunate that this occurred in town where speeds are somewhat lower," he remarked.

The segment of Highway 2A that traverses Millet has a speed limit of 50 km/h, which increases to 80 km/h and then 100 km/h as drivers exit the town.

Brett Jeremy Pawlak, a 36-year-old resident of Calgary, has been charged with impaired driving and operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding .08. He was arrested and subsequently brought before a Justice of the Peace, where he was released without cash bail.

Pawlak's next court appearance is scheduled for April 15 at the Alberta Court of Justice in Wetaskiwin.
