According to the Fort Saskatchewan RCMP, the operator of a Dodge Ram was observed exceeding the speed limit on Highway 21 near Township Road 542 on Thursday evening.

Law enforcement officials reported the confiscation of 7,800 illegal cigarettes during the incident.

The driver was apprehended under the Customs and Excise Act but has since been released. Authorities indicate that the illegal tobacco trade continues to draw organized crime in Canada.
