Florida has launched a criminal investigation into Andrew and Tristan Tate, just days after their arrival in the US from Romania. The state's governor, Ron DeSantis, made it clear that the brothers are not welcome in Florida, directing the attorney general to examine their alleged crimes.¹
Andrew Tate, 38, and his brother Tristan, 36, are facing charges in Romania for human trafficking, sexual misconduct, and money laundering, as well as starting an organized crime group. They are also under investigation by UK police for separate and unrelated allegations of rape and human trafficking.²
A recent lawsuit filed in Florida accuses the Tate brothers of conspiring to coerce a woman into sex work, luring her to Romania, and defaming her after her testimony to Romanian authorities. The brothers had previously sued the woman for defamation in 2023.
The Tate brothers, who are dual UK and US nationals, have been embroiled in controversy due to their misogynistic views, which are widely shared on social media platforms such as TikTok and X. They have also been linked to Donald Trump's inner circle, with the Trump administration reportedly lobbying their Romanian counterparts to ease restrictions on the brothers while they face charges.
The investigation into the Tate brothers is ongoing, with the Office of Statewide Prosecution executing search warrants and issuing subpoenas. The brothers have denied all allegations against them, with Andrew Tate claiming that US authorities are "trying to find crimes on an innocent man".
