In commemoration of International Women's Day, the Governor-General delivered the Helen Williams Oration at the International Women's Day Breakfast event held at the Arboretum in Canberra. This event was organized by the Institute of Public Administration Australia ACT, with contributions from IPAA ACT President, Secretary Katherine Jones PSM, and CEO Kate Driver.
The Oration pays tribute to Helen Williams AC, the first female Secretary of a Commonwealth Department in Australia, and celebrates the accomplishments of women in public administration. It serves as a forum for reflection, dialogue, and collaboration, emphasizing the importance of creating a more inclusive and equitable environment within the public sector.
The event commenced with a Welcome to Country by Ngunnawal Elder Selina Walker. Following the Governor-General's address, MC Genevieve Jacobs AM led a panel discussion featuring Michelle Steele, Chief First Nations Officer of The Paul Ramsay Foundation, which was followed by a Q&A session with attendees. The vote of thanks was delivered by Carolina Dorma, Partner at Minter Ellison.
