Seven-time world champion Ronnie O'Sullivan has withdrawn from next week's World Grand Prix in Hong Kong due to medical reasons. O'Sullivan, who was scheduled to play China's Si Jiahui in the opening round, will be replaced by Iranian player Hossein Vafaei. This marks the seventh ranking tournament O'Sullivan has pulled out of this season, following his withdrawal from the Welsh Open last month.
O'Sullivan expressed his disappointment, stating that he had been eager to make his comeback in Hong Kong but must prioritize his health. He has not played on the World Snooker Tour since withdrawing midway through his Championship League group in January. The World Grand Prix, featuring the leading 32 players of the season, will run from March 4 to 9 at the Kai Tak Arena.
The tournament organizers and fans have expressed their support for O'Sullivan, emphasizing the importance of his health and well-being. Vafaei, who will take O'Sullivan's place in the draw, also expressed his sympathy and excitement for the opportunity to compete in such a prestigious event.
