The Don Valley Parkway and Gardiner Expressway reopened this morning after record rains caused widespread flooding in Toronto on Tuesday.
The DVP was closed between Bayview Avenue and Bloor Street for several hours on Tuesday after torrential rains quickly flooded the busy highway, leaving some motorists stranded.

When asked about stranded motorists and whether the DVP should have closed earlier due to Tuesday's flash flooding, Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow said the city was reluctant to close a major highway given Toronto's congestion issues. |
"The amount of rain and the speed at which it came was incredible, so I don't want to question our staff, but we certainly need to assess the situation," he said.
The bad weather also caused a massive power outage across the city. Toronto Hydro reported that 167,000 customers were without power at the peak of the outage. In an email to CP24 Wednesday morning, the utility confirmed that the vast majority of homes and businesses in the city have had power restored, with just 3,300 customers still waiting for the lights to come back on.
