RCMP_shoulder_flash P99 available. A Barrie man has been charged with conspiracy by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police for allegedly attempting to smuggle individuals from Quebec across the US border in April of last year. The RCMP has charged Kamalanathan Kathapillai, 61, with conspiracy to commit an offence in the United States under section 465 of the Criminal Code. After the Valleyfield RCMP detachment launched an investigation, authorities claim Kathapillai planned to take four persons to a "unguarded location" on April 25, 2024, at the U.S.-Canada border. According to the RCMP, he was taken into custody in his car that same day in Dundee, Quebec, which is located in the Montérégie region close to New York state, some 90 minutes southwest of Montreal. Officers confiscated $1,100 (Cdn.), $1,100 (US), and the accused's car as offense-related property during the "interception," according to the RCMP. On March 10, Kathapillai is expected to appear in the Valleyfield courts. The claims have not been put to the test in court. According to a news release from the RCMP, "Human smuggling is a criminal enterprise that spans the globe." "Smugglers facilitate the entry of people into Canada or the United States by illegal means, while making a profit from them."By charging high prices to their passengers police claim that human smugglers have made illegal migration a profitable enterprise by using money to transfer them.
