Title: Trump gave a series of apparently contradictory answers
Post by: bosman on 2025-02-27 07:50
The haze around Trump's proposals for trade measures that he claims are intended to redress years of abuse by America's commercial partners has been thickened by his seemingly inconsistent responses to his plans to put tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and the EU. In the meantime, sources say Indian officials are looking into methods to avoid Trump's threatened reciprocal levies by lowering duties on a variety of imports, including as chemicals and automobiles. Since taking office again, Trump has made it obvious that Europe must protect itself, and the continent's reaction to US pullout threats is beginning to take shape.

The EU is seeking to free up hundreds of billions of euros in the largest security program the continent has seen since the Cold War increased funding for defence, including possible joint funding, repurposing of current funds, and adjustments to fiscal regulations to liberate resources, according to sources. One crucial task for Kirill Dmitriev, Putin's new ambassador for international economic cooperation, is to interest Trump and influential advisors like Elon Musk in the possibility of signing significant commercial agreements with Russia in exchange for a settlement of the conflict in Ukraine that benefits the Kremlin. Despite warning that the arrangement was not yet finalized, Trump stated that Volodymyr Zelenskiy would visit the US tomorrow to sign a draft agreement that would grant Washington access to the country's natural resource revenues.
