The Lagos Police Command says its officers have arrested a man for allegedly stealing an Uber driver's car.
Lagos Police Spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin said the case was reported to the Akinpelu Police Division by an anonymous Uber driver on July 5.
Hundeyin said the driver reported that he picked up a passenger, identified as Isaiah, in his Toyota Corolla from the NNPC filling station in Maryland to a certain hotel in the Oshodi area of Lagos.
He said that the suspect bought food for the driver, a bowl of pepper soup and an energy drink at the hotel.
"As the suspect was looking for a cotton swab to clean his ear, the driver gave him his car keys," NAN quoted Hundeyin as saying.
"The driver further said that the suspect went downstairs after collecting the car keys and drove away in his parked car.
"However, a team of police officers conducting a stop and search operation on Boladale Street intercepted him.
"As he could not give a satisfactory statement about the ownership of the car, he was arrested.
Hundeyin added that the driver arrived when the police were about to take the suspect to the police station and identified the car.
He said the suspect was detained for further investigation.
