K. Jeff, a suspected leader of an international drug gang based in Nigeria, was detained in Lagos on charges of transporting illegal substances into South Korea over the years. According to Korea Times, the arrest came after a five-year collaborative investigation by South Korea's National Intelligence Service and Nigeria's National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
Jeff was one of 37 members of the cartel who were arrested after detectives were able to identify important figures in the organization, according to the NIS Transnational Crime Information Centre. According to the NIS, Jeff is accused of running a five-continent drug trafficking network and tricking people, especially Koreans, into unintentionally importing illegal narcotics including methamphetamine and other stimulant drugs . According to the authorities, Jeff was previously convicted of narcotics smuggling in South Korea in 2007. In 2008, he was deported to Nigeria after receiving a 12-month prison sentence. According to reports, the gang tricked gullible people into trafficking drugs.
A fifty-year-old Korean woman was tricked into transferring what she thought were depilatory wax goods last year, only to find out later that the items contained cocaine. Before she could take a flight to Cambodia, she was apprehended. In the same way, at least ten Korean nationals were duped into unwittingly carrying drugs. Authorities discovered that Jeff and his friends were growing, producing, and transporting illegal substances throughout Southeast Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Americas.
The NIS and NDLEA have reiterated their dedication to breaking up global drug trafficking organizations, and more research is anticipated. Authorities are trying to find more members of Jeff's cartel, and his capture represents a significant victory in the battle against transnational drug trafficking.
