Charges pertaining to the December 2022 incident at Northwest Parkade Charges have been brought against a 10-year veteran of the Calgary Police Service for an incident that occurred in December 2022. (ASIRT) Following an inquiry by Alberta's police watchdog into an incident in which he shot a man in a parking lot in northwest Calgary in December 2022, a Calgary officer was charged. Ten-year veteran Const. Christopher Huggins faces charges of reckless firearm usage and aggravated assault. Investigators concluded the officer had committed charges based on the evidence, according to the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT).

Huggins will make his debut after being freed on an undertaking on March 21 in court. According to the Calgary Police Service, "The charged officer is afforded the right to a fair trial, the same as any member of the public," the statement states. "As is standard protocol, his duty status will be reviewed in light of these charges." Every time a person in Alberta is hurt or killed as a result of police activity, ASIRT looks into it. It also looks into believable allegations of wrongdoing by police.
