Fitness guru Richard Simmons has died at the age of 76, several media outlets reported, including ABC News and TMZ.

His housekeeper reportedly found him unconscious Saturday morning and the LAPD was called. TMZ reported that police are treating the death as natural causes.
Los Angeles police and fire departments told The Associated Press they responded to a Los Angeles home where a man was pronounced dead of natural causes.|Neither provided a name, but the AP verified Simmons' address and age based on public records.

The flamboyant fitness instructor, born Milton Teagle and "Richard" Simmons, became a household name and pioneered gyms as safe spaces for people who weren't yet in perfect shape. This year, he revealed in a series of social media posts that she had been diagnosed with skin cancer. She grew up in the French Quarter of New Orleans before settling in California, losing 268 pounds according to her website. Her struggle to lose weight, which saw her try everything from fad diets to laxatives before committing to exercise and a better lifestyle, inspired millions to do the same.
