Munich police said on Thursday afternoon that there was no public danger after a car ploughed into a group of people earlier in the day in the capital of the southern German state of Bavaria, with firefighters adding that at least 20 people were injured in the incident.
The driver was quickly arrested at the scene, Munich police said, later identifying him as a 24-year-old Afghan national.
"The driver of the vehicle was arrested at the scene and is not currently posing any additional risk," police said.
A police spokesman also said it was unclear to what extent people were injured and whether the collision was an accident or deliberate. Mini Cooper seen next to emergency vehicles Mini Cooper seen next to emergency vehicles

BR24 TV said the group was made up of people taking part in a symbolic strike by the Green union.
It also cited eyewitnesses who said two men were in the car, one of whom was shot by police and taken away. Police appealed to the public not to speculate, they said.
Focus magazine said some of the 20 injured were in critical condition, while police said two people were seriously injured. The city's mayor, Dieter Reiter, said he was "deeply sorry" for what had happened and that children were among the injured.
The incident occurred just a day before senior politicians from around the world were to gather in the city for the prestigious Munich Security Conference, which will be held about a kilometer from the crash site.
