Investigators have arrested three people who attempted to commit a suspected ATM fraud which would have enabled them to win €90,000.
A spokesman said investigators from the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau (GNECB) and Blackrock Garda Station made the arrests as part of an investigation into fraudulent activity at ATMs in Dublin and Meath.
"Gardaí have identified a number of incidents where ATMs have been fitted with items known as 'cash trapping' devices. These devices are fitted into ATMs and prevent ATM users from receiving their cash after withdrawing from the machine.
"It is understood that approximately €90,000 worth of cash withdrawals were blocked at various locations in Dublin and Meath last week.
"On Friday afternoon, GNECB-affiliated Gardaí arrested three men (aged between 20 and 40 years) as part of this investigation. They are currently being held at a Garda station in Dublin under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007.
"A quantity of cash and a number of cash-collecting devices were seized as part of this investigation," the spokesman said.
Gardaí are continuing to investigate the incidents.
