A group of people smashed several windows on the McGill University campus Wednesday night during a wave of vandalism.
Montreal police received multiple 911 calls around 8:20 p.m. reporting the incident, according to Montreal Police Department spokeswoman Caroline Chèvrefils.
She says the vandalism was carried out by a group of people, but police don't know how many people were involved. The group targeted three university buildings on Sherbrooke Street, near Peel Street. Police found broken glass and graffiti at the scene. According to Ms. Chèvrefils, the suspects had already fled when police arrived. The motive for the vandalism is currently unknown and an investigation is underway, she added.
Police will try to access nearby surveillance camera footage throughout the day to see if they can uncover anything regarding the identities of the suspects. No arrests have been made so far.
