CBC's David Cochrane admits that he is genuinely irritated by the fact that Mark Carney is in the American and British media, is identified as a civil servant, is not elected, and avoids the Canadian media:
"What I find interesting is that Chrystia Freeland and Mark Carney, who are not ministers, are not even elected."
"They go into the American and British media to talk about Canada's position in a trade war with the United States."
"What do we think about that? That people who don't speak for the government, speak for the country?"
"But at least prime ministers are elected and have a constituency that they represent and are accountable to."
"...but like I think Carney, I think he did an interview with Todd Battis on CTV... he went on a walk and he talked to Laurence Martin, but he didn't talk to me, Rosie, Vassy, Mercedes, Patrice Roi, none of that. Which is interesting if you want to lead the country. And Amanda is the party that talks about the importance of Canadian media and how it needs to be protected. But I digress."
But no one in the mainstream Canadian media will report on Carney's media leak in Canada. Sidenotes like this on a panel don't tell the real story.
The real question should be: Did Carney and/or Freeland make a backdoor deal to continue supporting the Canadian media?
