Calgary woman chases down thieves who tried to steal package.
A Calgary woman's quick reaction to stop a thief in the act, not only confronting the culprits but also recovering her package. Phoenix Phillips reports.
A Calgary woman's quick reaction was caught on camera as she stopped thieves who tried to steal a package from her front door.
A doorbell camera captured the moment Sunday when Danielle MacPherson saw someone approach the porch of her northwest Calgary home and bend down to pick up a delivered package.
"I was drinking my coffee, looking out the window and I saw my delivery on my doorstep," she said. "I noticed a woman coming up a little later, in a car that was coming toward me."
The video shows MacPherson running out her front door, wearing a robe and slippers, and down her front steps to chase the thief into her driveway. The quick action forced the culprit to drop the package before returning to the car parked on the street.
The person who tried to grab the package and another person can be seen getting into the car before it drove away.
"I didn't have time to go up the stairs, there were three of them," MacPherson said of his decision to jump off his porch toward the group.
MacPherson was able to get the license plate of the getaway car by quickly brushing snow off the back before driving away. She can be heard reciting the license plate information as she walked home with the package she found.
She has since reported the incident to police and says she is grateful to be safe after confronting the group.
"I am glad I was not injured by this athletic move, but also by the hands of the three suspects," she said.
Calgary police are advising anyone in a similar situation to avoid confrontation, but to write down any identifying information.
