The lawmaker representing Oboku/Oriade Federal Constituency of Osun State in the House of Representatives, Mr. Oluwole Oke, has advised former governor of the state, Rauf Aregbesola, to "go pray, bow and make peace" with President Bola Tinubu.
He said this against the backdrop of political tensions in Osun following the defection of the Aregbesola-backed Omoluabi Progressives from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The group's departure is said to be a result of conflicts between Aregbesola and his successor, former governor Adegboyega Oyetola.
In a social media post, Oke, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said a reconciliation between the two men would benefit the APC.
He, however, urged the PDP to take advantage of the division in the APC for its own benefit. Oke wrote: "Egbon Rauf 'Soji Aregbesola, former governor of Osun State and Minister of Interior, is an enigma – a grassroots mobilizer, a singer and a dancer. He is a major force and a BRIDE in Osun politics, whether we admit it or not."
He further described Aregbesola as a "bride" in Osun politics, saying: "PPD should act quickly, pay the required dowry and bring this "bride" into their fold. The symbol, as it is commonly called, is not one to be left to wander."
Reflecting on Aregbesola's time as governor, Oke continued: "Even if I was not in Aregbesola's party – AC, ACN or APC – I still won my elections. The secret? The great people of Ijesa North. In Ife/Ijesa senatorial district, Ogbeni can still get at least 20,000 votes. In Ijesa North and Ijesa South districts, Ogben's influence is undeniable."
Emphasizing the importance of Aregbesola, Oke said any politician who can invite 10 to 20 people to a meeting, feed them and give them a token afterwards should not be ignored.
