Authorities said that on May 13, 2012, Estrella Carrera was found dead in the bathtub of her Burbank apartment less than 48 hours after she married Jimenez.
Jimenez was charged with first-degree murder shortly thereafter, and a state warrant was issued for his arrest on May 15, 2012.
Two days later, a federal arrest warrant was issued for Jimenez after he was charged with unlawful flight to evade prosecution. Authorities said the Chicago FBI, San Antonio FBI, Mexico City FBI LEGAT and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois participated in the investigation, with assistance from agents from the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic.
Jimenez was the fourth most wanted fugitive in the United States at the time of his capture. More information on the FBI's 10 Most Wanted Fugitives can be found here.
