A drug trafficker, Joachin Mbonu, who is on the wanted list of the National Anti-Drugs Agency has been arrested.
Mbonu was arrested by NDLEA operatives on July 5 at his village house in Imo State.
A statement by the agency's spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, on Tuesday said Mbonu was arrested together with his partner.
He stated that Mbonu belongs to a drug cartel behind the manufacture of methamphetamine.
Babafemi said: "A major drug cartel behind the production and distribution of the deadly psychoactive substance methamphetamine, popularly called 'meth', has been dismantled by NDLEA operatives following the arrest of the 42-year-old leader of the syndicate. Old Joachin Chikaodi Mbonu and his partner in their hidden mansion in their village Umuomi, Uzogba-Ezenomi Autonomous Community, Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State. " The cartel with operational bases in Imo and Rivers States became the target of the agency after intelligence indicated that it is responsible for the distribution of significant quantities of methamphetamine in the South-East, South-South and other parts of the country.
