A quick response by firefighters Monday night helped prevent a house fire in the northwest from spreading and causing more damage. Around 7 p.m., fire crews were called to the 0-100 block of Beaconsfield Place N.W. The Calgary Fire Department (CFD) said the occupants of the home were able to escape. Firefighters got to work quickly, despite the challenge they faced: the fire had broken out in the back of the home. "First responders saw smoke and fire in the rear of this residence. They launched a quick attack, jumped it and immediately extinguished it with minimal damage," said CFD County Chief Al Kozicki, adding that the fire is believed to have started on the back deck of the home in an adjacent apartment building.
