President Tinubu to attend African Heads of State Energy Summit in Tanzania.
President Bola Tinubu will travel to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on Sunday, January 26, to attend the African Heads of State Energy Summit scheduled for January 27-28, 2025.
In a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the summit, organized by the Tanzanian government in collaboration with the African Development Bank Group and the World Bank, aims to advance "Mission 300". ambitious initiative to provide electricity to 300 million people in Africa by 2030.
The summit brings together African leaders, private sector parties, development partners and civil society organizations to discuss and strategize around the continent's urgent energy challenges.
Key areas of focus include expanding energy access to underserved regions, promoting the adoption of renewable energy, improving energy efficiency and mobilizing private sector investment to promote sustainable energy development. During the two-day event, participating countries will outline their commitments to universal access to energy.
On the first day, ministerial representatives will present their national energy compacts, proposing detailed plans to achieve their energy targets within five years.
On the second day, heads of state will adopt the Dar es Salaam Declaration on Energy, a collective framework for achieving the goals of Mission 300.
The two-day summit will open with ministerial-level discussions during which participating countries will present their national energy strategies, known as "energy compacts."
These compacts will detail each country's plan to achieve universal access to energy within five years. On the second day, African heads of state will formally adopt the Dar es Salaam Declaration on Energy, a historic agreement that will create a collective roadmap for achieving the goals of Mission 300. President Tinubu is expected to deliver a national address at the summit, where he will highlight Nigeria's commitment to universal access to energy and its efforts to promote clean and sustainable energy solutions.
The President will also unveil Nigeria's Integrated Energy Strategy, highlighting its leadership role in driving innovative energy policies across the continent.
The President will be accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Adebayo Adelabu, Minister of Energy, and Olu Verheijen, Special Adviser to the President on Energy, among other government officials.
President Tinubu's participation in the summit demonstrates Nigeria's commitment to being at the forefront of Africa's energy transformation. As a major player in the continent's energy landscape, Nigeria's contribution to the Dar es Salaam Declaration on Energy is expected to set the tone for broader continental cooperation on energy access.
